Heavily burdened camels, laden with provisions also carried more exotic goods: gold, silks, brocades, carpets and gems. After weeks of baking daily under a blazing sun, enduring freezing temperatures each night, our caravan had finally reached a refuge. It was a welcome change from the grueling weeks-long journey over Afghani mountain passes and the constant danger of roving bandits, and then the harsh Taklimakan Desert, an arid wasteland so hazardous it was said to mean "go in and you will never come out."
Carved Afghani lapis lazuli beads are complemented by deep blue & bright turquoise-hued azurite beads & 18K gold accents. Pendant drop 2 1/4".
