Synonymous with Shakti, the female aspect of the divine, Devi is the core form of every Hindu Goddess -- the female manifestation of the supreme Lord. Known as the Great Goddess, Devi has many guises. She is Ma , the gentle and approachable mother. As Jaganmata , or Mother of the Universe , she assumes cosmic proportions, destroying evil and tending to the creation and dissolution of worlds. All Hindu goddesses may be viewed as different manifestations of her. Some forms are benign and gentle, while others are dynamic and ferocious, but in all forms she is helpful to her devotees.
